 What does money really have to do with it?      This is a big question to tackle when talking about our educational systems within the country. Money unfortunately, has a big influence on a school districts ability to provide adequate education for their students. I have seen both sides of funding within school districts. My elementary school had very little funding for students within our school district.  This had and impact on not only the students, but on the teachers as well. In most situations, teachers have to pay for the majority of the supplies and resources within ones classroom. On the other hand, I was fortunate enough to attend a high school that had a sufficient amount of funding. This schools had the newest textbooks, computers, equipment, and materials for their classrooms.   How Does Gender Affect the Teaching Profession?      How does gender affect the teaching profession? Gender is something that I think has a significant impact on teachers. When we look closely at the majority of teachers, most of them are women. Throughout my entire educational career up until junior year of high school I had all female teachers. In the future, I hope that there will be more male teachers in the profession. Personally, I think this would be beneficial for male students to see male teachers that are similar to them. Another issue with gender is male teachers have to be more cautious around students.   Do I Have the Full Picture?      Do I have the full picture? This is an important question that I believe all teachers need to think about and address inside their classrooms. It is so crucial to understand the entire picture before making assumptions or judgements. To me a teacher should be able to assist students inside as well as outside the classroom. There will be experiences and issues in students home lives. We may not always understand or know what is happening, and this is why it is essential to know the whole picture.      For me personally, I have experienced a time in my life where I struggled tremendously. Impact of Empathy on Others         Empathy plays such a big part in the way that we can connect with others. I believe that this is one of the most important ways to let the people around you know that you are listening, understand them, and care about what they are saying and experiencing. Most of the time, myself included, we don’t always think about how our actions may impact those around us. This can affect the way that others may perceive us. I have done this, as well as experienced other people doing this to me. Even if someone doesn’t know or realize what they have done, it can still impact others.      My freshman year of high school my father passed away, of course this isn’t the average exchange with friends. Why Teach?          Hey everyone! My name is Chandler Serra. I am currently a sophomore at Texas State University, majoring in elementary education. Ever sine I was little I always enjoyed spending time with other kids and looked up to the teachers I had growing up. My teachers helped me to love learning, and helped me get my passion for wanting to teach and help future students who were like myself. Being able to be someone my students look up to is something that I can’t wait to do. I believe that students, especially ones who are just starting out their educational careers are so impressionable and eager to learn.
