How Does Gender Affect the Teaching Profession?

How does gender affect the teaching profession? Gender is something that I think has a significant impact on teachers. When we look closely at the majority of teachers, most of them are women. Throughout my entire educational career up until junior year of high school I had all female teachers. In the future, I hope that there will be more male teachers in the profession. Personally, I think this would be beneficial for male students to see male teachers that are similar to them. Another issue with gender is male teachers have to be more cautious around students. I have seen many videos on TikTok of male teachers talking about their struggle with teaching, and some of them address how they have to be more careful around students.
Another significant impact that gender has on the teaching profession is how we embrace the gender of our students. In the article "Protecting Trans Youth", it explains the importance that teachers have in  transgender students' lives. Teachers have to help protect trans students that are in their classrooms. The quote that really stuck with me was "Silence =Death in the fight to save Queer lives.", because I think it's important to realize that transgender students should feel accepted and welcomed in classrooms. Teachers should be advocating for their students and standing up for them when they are down. When reading the quote I also thought back to the TedTalk " Transgender kids are just kids after all" by Amber Briggle. She gave an astonishing statistic from the National Center for transgender equality that "41% of transgender kids attempt suicide." Something needs to change and as teachers we should be doing our best to help trans students. Teachers should be asking students for their preferred pronouns and preferred name that they identify with. Allowing for students to dress how they want to and making sure that all students are comfortable within our classrooms is the most important thing!
